For a moment, I thought I had misheard her. To be agonizing over how to enjoy yourself when you have plenty of money? Usually, when people stress over finances, it's because they’re broke. It wasn't, "I'm worried because I have less money for this trip than I thought..." but rather, "I don't know how to spend it." It sounded like something the youngest daughter of a wealthy family would say in a teen movie.

"In that case, shall we go buy some clothes first to change the mood? Since you're on a trip, you ought to enjoy it. And if you like sweet desserts, let's go get those cannoli you mentioned earlier. There's a place I visit to 'kiss my fingers' every time I come to Italy. I’m sure you’ll love it."

I pressed my thumb and index finger together, splaying the other three, and moved my hand slowly across my chest with a bright smile. Perfetto. My original plan was to sit in a cafe alone and people-watch, but the sudden prospect of company sent a wave of excitement through me. Ah, I might be getting a little ahead of myself.

"Ahem, well then... shall we?"

⎚-⎚

"Ah? Oh—whoa, ah...! Yes! Yes, let’s go together!"

<I> fumble about. <I> try to swing my backpack over my shoulder, stand up to run, and take your hand all at the same time. <My> right hand, reaching through the air, settles atop the hand you offered. As if resting <my> weight there, <I> lightly squeeze your hand. It is an expression of... a certain desperation. <I> need to feel like the protagonist of a movie or a drama. And from a certain point onward, you must immerse yourself in this play, too.

By the way, Gregory, what was your name?

"Um, excuse me, Mr. Gentleman... what is your name...?"

"I used to get fluttered and misunderstand their kindness when I first came to Italy, too. Now I know that’s just the default here."

Those words were incredibly relatable. I used to play the fool all by myself because of their heart-melting words and actions, always ending the night kicking my blankets in embarrassment. Seeing her rub her chin with her thumb as if contemplating something, I spoke up lightly.

"Is something bothering you? By any chance, did you get pickpocketed...?"

Her serious expression made the worst-case scenario flash through my mind. This is a tourist area, after all; things vanish in the blink of an eye. I felt it when I first saw her, but the woman in front of me tends to wear her thoughts and emotions on her sleeve. Even with glasses covering half her face, it was easy to tell. Even now, she’s waving her hands dismissively as if embarrassed, saying it’s nothing like that. Does she have no intention of hiding anything at all?

⎚-⎚

"No—no, it’s just... Ugh, should I say it or not."

<I> pretend to look intently into your eyes, even narrowing my brows slightly. Your irises are so dark, I can hardly distinguish them from your pupils.

"Fine, you don't seem to have bad intentions, so I’ll tell you everything. Don't laugh at me! It's just... money saved up? I have plenty. Even with my spending habits, I'd have more than enough left over. But the thing is, I don't know how to spend it...! I thought if I went on an overseas trip, I’d be able to enjoy life to the fullest! But I’m just getting pushed around! I haven't even been able to get near any place worth playing in! Will I be okay like this? Is this right? I really, really don't know."

Revealing a pathetic level of honesty, <I> go limp with a sense of helplessness and lethargy, clutching my backpack.

It’s not easy to recover goods circulating in the market. I wondered if my outfit was too shabby, but then again—wasn't it said that in Italy, if a man doesn't talk to you, you aren't even a woman? Well... it’s fine that I’m being "consumed," but because I look like such a harmless civilian, the date courses have been far too kind.

This isn't it.

I need a more... precise script.
A hideous, horrific version of Roman Holiday, steeped in lies and crime.

"Piacere di conoscerti. Anche tu sei venuto a goderti l'Italia?"

"Ah, a-ah? Aha, ah... Goderti l-ri... to enjoy... Goderti l'Italia... Ah, yes! Enjoy Italy, that’s right. I’m here on vacation!"

Oh, hello, Greg.
I wonder, can you be the lead in this script?

❁

She doesn't seem fluent in Italian; it looks like she picked up a few conversation books from a library and studied just enough.

"It seems like this is your first time traveling here. Would you mind if I joined you? I have plenty of time before my appointment. At the very least, I know the famous bakeries and nearby sights as well as any local."

Right, there was a place nearby with delicious cannoli. If she doesn’t like sweets, I should recommend panettone. The streets themselves are so beautiful that any photo she takes will turn out lovely. However, it’s a pity to leave memories looking like that. Above all, those glasses blur her features—I wonder if her eyesight is truly that poor.

⎚-⎚

"Wow, w-wow...! Really? Ooh, like cannoli—."

<She> shows a sequence of reactions: relief at hearing a familiar language, joy at the kindness, followed by anxiety and a cooling excitement. <Andrea> is a tacky, shabby woman. <I> know that.

"Italy is strange. Why is everyone so... kind?"

<I> find this entire situation awkward. To any observer, you are of a significantly higher caliber, making your presence a burden. Why such a convenient turn of events? Yet, while <I> may lack refinement, <I> do not lack greed. <I> do not retreat; instead, <I> exhibit a peculiar proactiveness. Perhaps the previous dates were truncated because a partner of lower status clung to mere kindness as if it were a lifeline.

Yet to bloom

Huge congrats on 700 followers, @ashe0000000 !!!

With spring here, a season of change, I wanted to focus on the image of budding and sprouting.

While the bright weather can sometimes contrast with the growing pains and gloom of adaptation, I believe that’s all just part of the process. Like a tightly coiled spring, we’re simply holding a massive amount of potential energy right now.

Thank you for this fun event and the inspiration—it’s been a truly meaningful experience just to try this out.

011-1. Fine. That’ll do.

"Crystal 7.4 The rats in these back alleys know its value better than anyone. Don't even think about skimming off the top. Make sure it gets to your handler."

Then he’ll understand. He'll know exactly where I come from, just how deep I am in this business, and the stark, cold fact that if he touches me, my own organization will be the one to put him down.
