Works with any brush, especially inks
Ink is encouraged, never required. For clean linework, start with Ink and Soft Ink in the General set. For washes and grit, try Watery Ink and Textured Ink. They all respond to pen pressure and tilt, and the stabilizer keeps long lines steady. Browse the ink brushes

Doing Inktober? Draw it on Magma
Inktober is the October ink drawing challenge Jake Parker started in 2009. Every year it publishes an official list of 31 prompts, and artists all over the world draw one a day and post with #inktober.
Jamtober is Magma's own challenge with our own prompts, and it's not a replacement for Inktober. If you're following this year's Inktober list, you're welcome in every Jamtober jam: draw your Inktober piece on the shared canvas, then post it with the hashtags Inktober asks for. You'll find the official prompts and rules at inktober.com.
Plenty of artists do both, or do Inktober digitally. Inktober's own FAQ says digital inking counts, and Magma's ink brushes respond to your pen the way a nib or brush pen does.

The rules (there aren't many)
- Draw something for the day's prompt. Our list, Inktober's, another October list or your own: all welcome.
- Any brush, any style. Ink is encouraged, not required.
- Put Jamtober in your post title so it shows up here, and use #jamtober when you share it anywhere else.
- Every day, twice a week, or just when you have time. Missed a day? Catch up or keep going. There’s no way to fail.
- Be kind on shared canvases: draw in your own space and ask in chat before adding to someone else's piece. Art Jam best practices

What is Jamtober?
Jamtober is Magma’s October drawing challenge: a prompt for every day from Monday to Saturday, each with an Art Jam hosted by Magma where you draw it with other artists on one shared canvas. It’s free, in your browser.
When does Jamtober 2026 start and end?
It runs from October 1 to October 31, 2026. There’s a new prompt and an Art Jam hosted by Magma every day from Monday to Saturday, 27 in all. You can join on any day, including late in the month.
Is Jamtober the same as Inktober?
No. Inktober is a separate challenge, started by Jake Parker in 2009, with its own official prompt list at inktober.com. Jamtober is Magma's own challenge with its own prompts and daily group Art Jams. Jamtober is not affiliated with or endorsed by Inktober. You can do both, and many artists do.
Can I do Inktober digitally?
Yes. Inktober's own FAQ says learning to ink digitally is a separate skill and no less valid. In Magma, start with the Ink and Soft Ink brushes, use a pen tablet for pressure and tilt, and turn up the stabilizer for long lines. See the ink brushes
Can I use Inktober prompts on Magma?
Yes. Draw whichever prompt list you like in Magma, including Inktober's official 2026 list, which Inktober publishes on inktober.com. We don't reprint it here. Every Jamtober jam welcomes Inktober pieces, and when you post them, follow Inktober's own rules and hashtags.
Do I have to draw in ink?
No. Ink is encouraged because it's a great way to practice committing to a line, but pencils, paint and markers are all fine. Magma has brushes for all of them.
How do I join a Jamtober jam?
Create a free Magma account and open the Art Jams page. Magma hosts a Jamtober Art Jam every day from Monday to Saturday: if the next one hasn't started yet, RSVP to it in Magma and you'll get a notification when it starts. You can also draw the prompt in any open jam or host your own. Once you're in, pick a spot on the canvas and start drawing.
What if I miss a day?
Skip it, catch up later, or draw two prompts on the same day. Every prompt stays on the calendar all month. Two days have a secret theme, revealed on the day in that day's jam.
Is Jamtober free?
Yes. Jamtober and all of Magma’s Jamtober jams are free to join with a free Magma account. You get pen pressure and tilt, blending brushes and up to 60 layers on the free plan. See what Magma can do
How do I get my art on this page?
