I just found out (If this is historically accurate don't trust the internet kids) that goodbye comes from a like 16th century slang letter shortening of "God be with ye" written as God b w ye at the end of letters and then Godbwye, and so read as goodbye so that's why we say goodbye/bye when we leave and I just think that if that's true it's really adorable man idk. Especially since when saying just Bye it's like saying "be with you" so you're saying you're with the person like spiritually or smth
