I was reminded of my character KRSCNT (like the moon phase Cresent) for today's Jamtober. I created her in 2017, so its been a while but she got a redesign today, and I love it!! Also.. Thank you to those of you who added to the backgrounds and the effects..especially @TOXA👣 and @(:D it looks so beautiful aaa!.
I really enjoyed drawing with you all ☺️
and now, a large musing of little importance
I forgot how much I enjoyed drawing KRSCNT up until now.. she was super cool to me back in the day, basically at the start of my fascination with sci-fi themes. Back then her design influences were from Voltron, Starwars, Prodigy (the super old math game 🥲) Iron-Man, Batman, Guyver, + knight, gladiator, and samurai armor.
I noticed, based on her redesign today, it's more Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, Tron, Batman+other DC characters, and various Fortnite characters
some still from the past too. I think there's more but I can't think of em all. I've never thought of how subconsciously I would integrate things I've seen into my creations, but I'm definitely noticing it a lot more... It's really cool actually, even though I don't consider myself a fan of half the things I mentioned, they still made their way into my characters and design style of course.
Jamtober's been really great so far ^^ I'm glad I have more time now.
I'm not really gonna finish this, but it was super fun trying something new!! At first I was pretty bummed bc trees aren't super interesting to me, but then I realized I could draw from a different perspective. I'm normally hesitant to use references but it really helped. I just took a picture of a tree and mostly referenced the curve of the trunks and the leaf coloring in relation to the light. I added some blue triangles in the back to make it look like the sky was peeking through
That's my secret hehee
Hiya
I've come out of hiding to share some doodles from today's Jamtober! For Inktober I usually redesign/style my characters, so I kinda tried to do that here. I gave this dude a pen nib in place of his claw. I think his outfit needs some work, but its ok
. I have another drawing I did while here, but I'll post it after this one.
I try to remember the memories of creating during Inktober, and what it means to me: A time to just go for it and just have fun. Not worried about colors (I love the challenge of drawing with just ink, and the unique aesthetic of it), and not worrying about ideas bc of the prompts. The limits are the only ones I put on myself. I thoroughly enjoy these "artober" challenges in general, and I love seeing what people create during this time. It's such a special time for me, which I have waited all year for!

@thelilyfactor Wow thank you!! I really appreciate that! 🥹
Hi all, I wanted to draw something to lift the mood. It's been a while since I've drawn, as I've been so busy
.
I started drawing a fairy girl and she reminded me of Bloom from Winx, so I turned it into her. I've never seen anything past the first episode, and that was years ago, so idk if this counts as fanart haha. Drawing this really lifted my mood today ☺️. I'll make the most of it since it'll be a while till I have this much freetime again.
@Ramchop.exe :o Thank you so much ^^ That's such a nice compliment, I love those movies! ☺️
I like your art style it reminds me of a storybook or the Tinkerbell movies :-D
Hi, I'm back, (kinda)
Kit is one of my many characters. She's a couple years old (2023), but got a complete redesign + rewrite months ago. I drew her like 50,000 times today lol.
She may exude confidence, but she doesn't really like herself. So, she's mean to people in order to stop them from trying to get close to her. (Crazy, amirite?)
This rendition of her seems a lot more alive than before, and I'm okay with that :) I do have yet to find anything good about her though
I'm still learning how to write characters as individuals and not just plot pawns, but I think she's a step in the right direction.
Woahhohh she rocks!!
not gonna be as active as usual but i'll see ya around
☺️
Same for me tbh.
You'll be missed Mezz! Have fun exploring things outside of Magma! :D
Until next time!
I drew some cool people.. or maybe they're scary, idk. I didn't think about posting this earlier this year. The guy and his outfit were from a reference- he's wearing velvet coat + suit. The lady was from imagination, but I think her outfit was referenced? idr. I can't remember what month this is from.. either March or April? anyways..cool

I had the absolute best time drawing @raven烏[EvilMango] 's character today. I haven't rendered this way for a long time, and it brought me a lot of joy. My art lately has been created so quickly, but its begun to feel less personal to me. I forgot what the feeling was until today. So along with getting to draw an awesome oc, I got to have fun drawing in the way I haven't done for a long time. Those hours were worth seeing it through to the end.
Drawings done in a lighting study jam from a couple weeks ago. I wanted to try more of them but it was taking me a super long time to finish. I look at this and am reminded why I stopped doing so much lineart.. it took SO much out of me that day, and my wrist felt it too 🥲. It took even longer than the rendering on the other drawings (at least it felt that way). I wouldn't say "never again".. But I will say, if I do end up doing more clean lineart in my art again, I've got to go about it in a different way... bcuz this is not it
.
I actually really like these drawings, and I enjoyed making them. And this character is supposed to be really intense, so I think she looks just crazy enough for it to work haha. It feels weird, though.. it's kinda hard to think I drew this. I know I've technically still kinda drawn like this but this is sort of an older style I had.. Nearing 3 or 4 years now I've mainly drawn digitally using a lasso brush tool, and I started this because my wrist needed to heal from years of trackpad drawing. Now that I'm doing betterish, I could probably start doing lineart more again, but to be honest, I might just reserve it for my smaller drawings instead of detailed works. I'm not as confident in it as I used to be.
I forgot this was supposed to be about the lighting, not the lineart lol. I think the lighting was really fun, I tried paying closer attention to how her skin would react with the light, as darker skin tends to absorb more light than lighter skin, so it sorta takes on more of the color. Lighting and ambience is instrumental in making your subjects really feel like they're in the setting. I never have really taken the time to do this, so I do value the process and practice. I'd like to see how I can implement this without lines or at least a simpler rendering style, for my wrist's sake.
(I'm done rambling now
)
I thought I'd share some of the brainstorm sketches for this character I'm using for a certain project (more than one actually)
. It was pretty fun, but also challenging. This doesn't really cover his proportions like a character turnaround- as that's a different process. Here, I was focused on establishing his basic looks and personality, as well as expressions. As you can see from that first drawing on the left, he's changed quite a bit!
This character is based on a Kappa, a yōkai from Japanese mythology. I will say that he's definitely not as horrible as the traditional Kappa, he's just mean spirited, and loves money- which leads him to do all sorts of crazy stuff to get even more of it
. To add- rather than the short and sharp turtle-like beak a Kappa tends to have, I sorta gave him a more duck-like beak. It wasn't intentional at first, but I decided to keep it- I think it adds to his snarkiness.
Even though this is just brainstorming, I really enjoyed the process of sketching different expressions. It helped me to really think about who he was, what kind of emotions he'd have, and how he'd express himself. I also used liquify to exaggerate some of them, which helped me to push the expressions in ways I normally wouldn't have thought! Like I said before, there needs more work on his composition- as in his body and proportions. However, I do like the idea of making him a bit stubby and short- his personality far outgrows his size, which I find amusing.
The main drawings here were done a couple weeks ago. Only the really smaller ones were more recent. I'll be drawing him a lot more, so this will also serve as a general reference sheet- at least personality wise haha.
I typed out a whole thing.. yea nvm. Most of this spring really felt like just a super long winter, snow included.. Now summer is on the horizon, but I'm really gonna miss being able to wear lots of cozy clothes at once
@ashe0000000 Thank you Ashe!
This is so cute! Love it <3
I almost lost this one... good thing I save my drawings every couple minutes. Today I'm getting inspiration and just trying to have fun drawing. I did forget to paint the rest of the board and some shadows hehe. I would've liked to put more movement into the surfer's pose somehow.. but it's a process of learning. Out of everything in this little excercise, I like the colors most, but I'd like to really lean into rendering the water, at least in a way that shows its movement. I just never figured out how to paint it in the way I see it in my head
(even though I used refs for this, its still supposed to be stylized
)
Ik this is late and doesn't count but I wanted to finish it hehe. She has a really pretty and unique design, she was so fun to draw
@ashe0000000 aaa Thank you Ashe! ^^ I'm so glad you think so! ☺️
Omg Mezzo this is gorgeous

✨️ I think she works so well for your style since she has a bit of an abstract design. This looks crazy cool the shapes and the colors are stunning !!! Thanks for adding to the challenge even if it's late, really love this
