Artspace Tip : Running Art Jams

Running a great art jam can take planning and effort. You may have seen this already through some of the featured Art Jams that have been listed recently. Here are some important things to consider so that you can run a good Art Jam from inside your Artspace:

- Plan it out
Of course the free draw jams are fun and easy, but what if you have a bigger idea in mind? Think about the goal of the Art Jam and take the time to plan how it will work.

- Add a clear description and rules
Tell people what the idea is and what’s expected. This way those who join know what to do and can jump right in. Having those rules laid out in the Art Jam description or even in the canvas itself can be helpful for keeping joiners in check.

- Don’t make it public yet
If you plan to publish your Art Jam to the main listing page for other Magma users to join, it’s best to wait or keep it hidden until you are done setting everything up.

- Check the permissions
In the Admin menu of your canvas, you will find various permissions. The default settings are already good for public boards but you might want to tweak them a bit for your specific Art Jam. Did you know that you can disable the paint bucket tool here?

- Check for empty layers frequently
Ever hit the layer limit in an Art Jam? It doesn’t have to be the end of it. Check for empty layers often and remove them to ensure there’s always a layer available. Encouraging your joiners to merge their layers before they leave helps too.

- Use the Participants List to manage joiners
Tap the grouped avatars in the top right corner to open the Participants List. Here you can assign approved or admin roles, and block other users from the canvas if you need to.

- Ask a fellow admin in the Artspace to help you
Having a trusted person to help you manage your Art Jam goes a long way to making it less stressful and more enjoyable.

- Hide the Jam when you need to
You can set your Art Jam back to Members Only to remove it from the public Art Jam page at any time. It’s a good idea to do this when you or your admins go offline to prevent new people from joining and possibly disrupting the Art Jam.

It’s a lot, but we hope these tips help you to run Art Jams that grow your community.
