It been a WHILE, I’ve only been online to check up on magma with my friends device recently, (meaning on I haven’t yet received one of my own) but here’s a little doodle of briar for ya :) I didn’t intend to post this at first, bc it was really messy and pretty random, and don’t look to hard at that horrid anatomy, but id like everyone to know I’m doing well, and hope you are too!! of COURSE I realize the shoulders look weird AFTER I finish rendering but hush this isn't about that just look at the colors..
I'm not that proud of how I render her hair, she looks like she's got severe jaundice, I think I overdid the textures but that's just me being an artist. from an outside point, this isn't that awful and I'm really happy with it actually ^^
so happy I think I want it as my pfp. there's no RULE that I HAVE to wait till my current one gets old, I'll just switch whenever I make a piece I think represents my style nicely. SO YEAH PFP CHANGE AGAIN LOL

i really should've studied arms more, I most just skimmed it over, so I'm just putting lines wherever I want honestly. fake it till u make it amirite
also ik this looks VASTLY different from the previous studies, you might think this didn't take as long, and you're right, the other ones took way longer, but this still took up too much of my attention span
I knowwww it's only three sketches, and I'm only vaguely okay with the one on the far left, but hey I'm totally not a ragequitter aha..
I blame artblock. this is what happens when you lock in for hours consecutively and daily. I really hate these but I gotta admit, it's not my WORST work, I'd say. ignore that doodle in the corner art is self expression so i get to rage doodle so shush >:P

I tried tracing harder poses this time, and even just straight up tracing the muscular system
I did notice with all this tracing that while I get how most of the shapes and muscles work, the arms are..really confusing. so I did set down and actually focus on that. it was kinda overwhelming, all these videos and tutorials telling me to memorize all these fancy labels, but I did find this neat website, still a little confusing, but definitely helpful for arm anatomy :D

in all honesty, I'm not really pressuring myself too much to really learn every individual muscle, since if need be in the future, I'd just grab a reference, and generally I don't draw really muscly characters. but! you need to know the rules before you break them and I think there's no harm in just getting an idea of it :3
anatomy is so hard dude, I might do another study but I really just wanna skip to studying other stuff like lighting and colors..hehe..yall know I love coloring.. (shroom is a toddler confirmed)

all these hours of studying anatomy are helpful and all, but I miss rendering, so here's briar!! this is NOT an anatomy study, nor an art style study, just me playing around :]

this one's not studying any artist in particular, just wanted to do this to get a grip on basic human structure

sorryyyy I know a lot of these are kinda hard to see, I was playing with opacity and accidentally merged layers without fixing the opacity of both some of the references, and the study, and I couldn't fix it y-y
I did abruptly change my brush size tho, and that actually helped SO MUCH. I wouldn't say I "know anatomy now" since I can't do really dynamic poses yet, and also I think my proportions are liiiiitle bit off, BUT I would like to think this helped a lot actually!! I didn't really sprinkle my study notes all over it like my previous studies, since it was more about building my muscle memory than memorizing fun facts, so a kot of the words here are jokes
overall I did NOT think I'd do this well! if you scroll through my gallery you can just KNOW this is way outside my comfort zone, but I'm glad I put in the hours :D any tips you might have are DEFINITELY welcomed YES PLEASE.

gonna start with the credits this time, again it's the same amazing artist @uh⁸ SDVREBREH I love their style smsmsmmm

this one took 3500 strokes. I never care about that but like dang. I used three pieces of theirs for this study, but studying them all, even just covering the basic stuff took over two and half hours ;-;
BUT WHATEVER, THIS WAS KIND OF REALLY STRESSFUL GUYS. esp in the bottom right where I'm trying to do a 3/4 headshot and i kid you not guys I may as well have cried this was so hard
but no pain no gain yk, bc I DID learn a few things about how they stylized the proportions!! like yk how some artists make the tip of the chin flat so the face doesn't look like an upside-down cone? an nice rule of thumb is the the width of tip of the chin, is basically the width of an eyeball. nice way to make sure you don't flatten the poor guys head too much, or make him look like he had an accident with a pencil sharpener. that's a really small detail I guess, but it's the little things that count shush
and besides the anatomy, just. look at their OCS. aren't they so cute. look they're dancing in the corner awww look Simon's giving Evelyn bunny ears over there awwww my HEARTTT

I fear I have learned nothing. but I hope if I keep practicing I might see some improvement? eh actually no I take it back, I actually did learn a lot from this lol, little things about anatomy and little details I noticed the artist adds which just makes me love the style more!! like I love how their use of colors is so recognizable and its such a specific aesthetic that just perfectly suits their OCS personality

and I learned, your hand is actually roughly half the height of your your forearm!! bet ur checking that right now heh. your eyes are an eyeball width apart. also the length from your chin to the base of your nose is the same length as the base of your nose to your eyebrows, and that's also the same length from your eyebrows to your hairline!! isn't it so lovely how your face is just perfectly divided in three? well that and a bunch of other things you kind of have to see to understand.
overall, cannot believe I don't do studies more often. I think this is my first serious one too lol, ignore those doodles of me stressing, this was genuinely fun, for the most part heh

heh don't mind how I used a different set of colors each time I draw her it's just so hard to color the same way twice in a row genuinely it's so hard for me
I love how each of my sheets just perfectly capture the characters vibe, idk how to say it lol, I'm just happy with this :D

unlike George and Martha's, she's in a whole separate fantasyish universe with some HEFTY lore

it was kinda hard to make this ngl, not the drawing bit, that part was really fun, but when I was describing her I was kinda stuck. the way I made Martha, was just a little doodle of her doing something, a little comic of her saying something, and adding lots of hobbies and quirks and stuff like that. she honestly very realistic, doesn't really easily fit into cliche adjectives, but I tried my best!!
martha also doesn't have a set outfit I draw her in. she's definitely got a specific, sophisticated sense of style, though im not sure if there's a word for the aesthetic lol
george and Martha are finally done!! I love looking at the differences between their character sheets, I think I nailed it (if I do say so myself):>
