harpy J loafin in the sunlight :3 based off of a whole conversation i had with a friend who helped me make this au

just as a little bit of an explanation: i have a silly little au that was originally made off of the idea of "lol what if i made tessa a werewolf" and then it got a bit bigger from there. so basically, mythological creatures exist in this au! Tessa's parents own a monster hunting company (which is why they're so rich, because it is INCREDIBLY successful), and thats also why she absolutely can not tell her parents about it because they wouldn't care that she's their daughter and would have her hunted down.

J, before coming to the manor, was originally a training drone- a type of drone in this au that were modeled after various different monster types, and were used to train hunters. J got pretty banged up by a trainee who was a bit too eager to move up in the rankings, and was deemed "beyond repair" and got thrown into the dump.

i kinda wanna say more but also i don't wanna make this too long so maybe ill talk about it in a seperate post if people were interested.

now that the episode is out i can FINALLY POST THIS.
to all of the transfem jax enjoyers i was skeptical of: i apologise. yall were right all along and i see the errors of my ways. also, this scene fundamentally changed my entire view of jax forever i love her and also ribbitrabbit for the WIN (no hate to funnybunny shippers or any other ships i just like them)

fun fact: I tried to make a ref sheet for her like five separate times. each time before this I started it, got distracted by another idea, told myself I'd go back to it after said idea was finished, and then never actually did. it took so much effort to not do the same here, since i felt such an intense need to make TADC art, but thankfully I didn't give in and finally got it done just in time for the new chapter!

reread a really nice jangst fic recently and well. things happened in my brain. the last lines of the fic destroyed me enough that i felt like i had to draw some stuff for it! also i was overdue for some more jangst art anyway and i haven't drawn cynessa in FOREVER so uh yippee. i did all of this in one sitting. i am VERY pleased with my shading skills here and i hope you like it

hey random question but do any of yall have any tips for drawing faster without lowering the quality too much?? I just feel like even the things I make with the intention of drawing them 'quickly' end up taking hours and hours every time and I really wanna have more things done without sacrificing their quality.

also bonus question. anyone got any tips for dealing with artblock?? having a bit of trouble doing anything right now :(

sooo fun fact the sketch for this wasn't even originally gonna be J, but then i had a fun idea for the new DD wing designs and thought "oh yeah ill just do a quick drawing to try it out!"

anyway, about 7-8ish (probably more, i didn't keep track) hours and five days later, i now have a fully rendered piece. i am very normal about the fight scene between V and J in episode 8, especially in regards to J's dialogue. VERY. NORMAL.

stupid comic i made based off of a stupid idea i had for these two pre-MD:R :3 tessa's an idiot who has never seen snow before and had no idea just how cold it actually is.

since i've never posted anything with gale on here before, i'll repeat here what I said in my artbook on ao3 when I first introduced per:
- Gale is NOT my character and although I have permission from my friend to post about per, she created gale entirely herself :3 (here's her steam account! she posts art, mostly rain world stuff as of when im typing this, but you should go check it out! https://steamcommunity.com/id/dawntheicewing/)
- Gale is nonbinary and aroace, and uses the pronouns per/per (but is technically fine with any neo pronouns or just they/them. Per/per is preferred tho.)
- per is pretty much Tessa's only human friend. they met years before the whole gala massacre thing and are bffs. pers pretty good friends with J too, although J pretends not to care about per. they 'argue' a lot but its not a real rivalry or anything, per just thinks its funny
- Gale is very silly and jokes around a lot, but per can be serious when needed

wow! multiple posts in one day! can you belive it? anyway, heres a scug oc I actually care about. he's part of my main collection of ocs (which is called Monsoon, because I like when people name their rain world expansions after weather related things), which is actually made up of both mine and my friend's (Dawnwish, in case you wanted to check her art out, which you totally should) characters.

ok, now i'm gonna share some info on his backstory and basic abilities

5 food needed to hibernate, 5 food stored.
Can use back spikes as emergency spears, only 3 given with no cost per cycle. Each costs 1 and 1/2 food pips to regrow once used.
Higher damage with spears.
Berserk mode - gain extra strength, breath (when underwater), and rivulet speed for 30 seconds.
Berserk mode costs 7 food pips. If the player has 6 - 4 food pips, the starve cycle effect is applied, and if they use it with 3 - 0 food pips, they die after the 30 seconds.
Unable to force hibernate.
Gets half a pip for vegetarian foods.
Slow swimmer.

The Horned was originally the leader of a nomadic colony. He was well known among the colony members to be kind and caring, only killing when nessecary for survival and always careful to only take what they needed. He had a young pup (now known as The Temporary (one of Dawnwish's ocs!)), who he loved more than anything else in the world. The problems started when he was leading his colony through an iterator's complex, trying to reach shelter for the cycle, and wandered too close to the iterator's structure. Unfortunately for them, this iterator decided that they needed some new test subjects for their experiments, and over half the colony were captured (through a combination of other purpoused organisms that the iterator sent out) and brought into the structure for this purpose, including both The Horned and his pup. The rest were either killed or escaped. Over the course of many cycles, the other colony members were experimented on and gradually died one by one, through a system the iterator had created to basically force-ascend (basically flooding a sealed area with void fluid) them if they were no longer able to function properly. Only The Horned and The Temporary remained in the end (although he never knew that his pup was still alive). The Horned woke up one cycle to find his entire colony dead, and in a fit of animalistic rage, he rampaged through the iterator's structure, breaking things and killing the other organisms, before

i hate this guy. hes a terrible little man who's only redeeming trait is his strength and and he hates everyone weaker than him. hes a stupid narcissist who does whatever he wants with no regard for the consequences. I only redrew him because of a crossover au a friend is working on, since i thought this guy would make a good replacement for a cetrain character. but i do really like the way i drew him, and i do think the comparison to my old ref (which was drawn a little over a year ago now) is really nice. so im posting it.

might have to draw some of my other rain world ocs that i actually like and care about eventually. for now, it's just this guy.

J deserves a break. so naturally i spent hours on a drawing that was supposed to take 30 minutes and did a whole background and shading. i am very normal.

Tessa may be having a bit of a hard time breathing considering her girlfriend is about 210 kilograms (yes i did steal that measurement from a fanfic i read, bite me) worth of heavy industrial machinery built for the sole purpouse of killing, but if it means that her gf will get some rest, she's willing to deal with it.
also shes very gay for her so that does play a part. its not entirely selfless. she likes cuddling her beautiful warrior girlfriend a lot. and honestly, who can blame her.

im not late. i would never be late. i definitely did not stay up until three am for this. if you see any glaringly obvious mistakes, no you dont. i need to sleep and so im posting this now.

trans J is a headcanon i really wish i saw fanart/fanfics use more often tbh. I love her so very much. for a bit of context (although i think this could totally work by itself), this is based off of a wip fanfic i have somewhere buried deep in my google docs. this is about a week after J came out to Tessa, and Tessa is helping her with transitioning and stuff. just the outside appearance at this point, no voice changing has been done yet, but Tessa did her hair for her and got her the maid uniform. this is the first time she's ever gotten to see herself presenting a bit more femininely, and so this is her initial reaction to seeing herself in the mirror.
