@Sorrow •ᴗ• I usually try to make it look like papertexture because I draw a lot on paper too. First when I started digital I didn't like my paintings. But with time I started to learn to use a mix of self made texture and some I found on google. Now I mosty create them myself and use them for bigger shapes like the backround. But I also experiment with the advanced settings on the brush itself. My favorit is the Color Dynamics and Dual Brush setting. This adds more details without trying really. But you should keep in mind it to use it wisely because your painting is going to look too detailed you need areas where it is soft and clean too.
This is one of my favorite pieces on magma, what brushes did you use? the texture and texture is really beautiful! I'd love to try and develop a style like this...

@HighSkull lol. I actually find it hard to make it less realistic because I am used to being accurate but I think i should make my drawings more stylized not too realistic.
