so i was on pinterest cuz i was lookin for kandi inspiration & i came across a post that in summary said “heterophobia is not real, teasing is not discrimination” (with a few colorful choice words of course)

i wanna preface with that i am in NO way saying heterophobia exists systemically speaking, rather that it does on a small scale as a concept. i agree that non-queer people are not oppressed by their governments and communities for their lack of queerness. HOWEVER, it’s a real thing??

a little anecdotal evidence for ya, i once met someone who didn’t believe that heterophobia was real either, and they were INSUFFERABLE about it. not that everyone who agrees with that is this way, it’s often just a cause of misinformation/lack of information, but BOY that was not the case here. they quite literally believed that anyone who wasn’t LGBT+ was inherently queer-phobic cuz they weren’t oppressed enough to possess sympathy towards queer people. bro??

that actively equates the validity of one’s queerness to their suffering as a queer person, but they’re also against transmedicalism. understandably so, i am too, but thats a blatant contradiction in their line of thinking 0_ō i tried to argue that on an individual level, yes there are people who get excluded and mistreated for being heterosexual. no it’s not to the severity nor extent which homophobia exists, but that does not invalidate it.

guys apparently if you suffer less than someone else then you don’t suffer at al!!1!1!1!!l! /sacarsm are deadass bro again anothwr instance of denying validity on the basis of suffering, which is inherently discriminatory! i dont think it’a fucking crazy to say that there are bitter people who are mean to cishets out of misplaced anger and that it’s not okay to do that to ANYONE for their sexuality (assuming it’s valid which i’m not even gonna get into, that’s another whole rabbit hole)

homophobia is LITERALLY discrimination based on a sexuality that’s “different.” there are plenty of valid sexualities that receive hate for being too niche or unconventional as labels, which again: that’s what homophobia is. you’re not fixing anything by dividing queer people from straight people in the name of hating heterosexuals. THAT. IS. WHAT. HOMOPHOBES. DO. YOU ARE THE ONE IN THE SAME.
