Celebrating Chinese culture for Harmony Week~
The Magpie Bridge or Queqiao (鹊桥) is a Chinese folktale about the forbidden love between a cow herder (niulang 牛郎) and a weaver girl (zhinü 织女) who lived in heaven and weaved colourful clouds. When the gods found out Zhinü fell in love with Niulang, they created a river - the Milkyway, to separate them forever. Once a year on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, out of pity, the magpies would fly to heaven to form a bridge so they can be together for a single night, which is now celebrated as the Qixi festival in China.
