Short pause, ill be back eventually.
This is a practice canvas. Each tree is numbered and named, the number represents the order by which it was painted ascending. If you observe the numbering you’ll notice that while you count upwards the quality improves as i learn more. Im most happy with the spruce and maple, and least happy with the willow which just feels like i visualized a scalp and based all the roots from there. The new rake brush was used on some of the trunks and was ideal for the job.
I came across something called “The gauntlet method” by way of a video. The idea was that you try to closely mimic traditional painting and avoid any advantages of digital painting. This meant no undos (even for mistakes), no layers, starting with a blank canvas etc. .Here, i was copying parts of Pieter Claesz’s still life, and i was really proud of what i was able to achieve by following this method. I had never really tried something like this before!
THATS SO GOOD
