⎯⎯ ୨ Specimen ୧ ⎯⎯
─ a poem ─
cut me up and pin me
like a bug dissection.
first slice: the part you call
my spine. i laugh that you think it holds me
like a ruler.
you tap the scalpel against
the tray and wait for the pieces to
explain themselves.
i twitch anyway and you startle,
write it
down: irregular motion.
cut me up and pin me
like a bug dissection.
i let you move my ribs aside
to count organs, failures, theories.
you say “careful” and i want
to tell you care is just a word for watching me
bleed slowly until i make sense
under your lamp.
cut me up and pin me.
your voice stays quiet. your eyes
look only through
the lens, safe behind the glass while
i am hollowed.
the knife moves, i resist,
stretching against the pins,
cut me up and i laugh
because you are holding a body,
but i am holding you.

@peculiar-exister nuh-uh first of all, u no say sry for writing an essay, you know I love when we analyze back and forth >:D And wait, not the irony of you experiencing the linguistic bottleneck while even talking about the linguistic bottleneck TvT loll ik we refer to it alot xD.
I really love your point about the speaker being concerned with their own behavior of avoidance. You're so right about the overwhelm and the self kinda preservation aspect? It's like, the speaker knowsss they can't stop time, so closing the door is the only microoofraction of control they have left in that moment, (even if it's an illusion ofc). and yeah the bright light def = overwhelm kinda reality and even asks more as a trigger to it.
(on a side note isn't it interesting how i can use light in different ways in different poems xD. cause in some poems as yk i use it moreso to represent the foreign concept of hope or calming, or just idk light lmao but this one kinda does the opposite rather than striving to reach some goal or experience the light the speaker actively tries to avoid it why did i put this giant paragraph in paratheses idek)
(also it's so crazy that a opem only 5 stanzas long xD can be analyzed so much when it might in some cases be seen simply as it's literal interpretation lolll like i couldn't imagine not thinking beyond it TvT to try and understand what it was abt tho ofc ik that analysis can be hard in general or you may not think to start it in the first places anyways i digresss)
Now you HAVE to tell me what else you wanted to say about the linguistic choices, please <- I love using this emoji now can you feel me stareing into your soul jay? can you can you?
@Nix ୭⋆｡˚ (semi-hiatus) Yeah, all of what u said actually crossed my mind when I was writing my previous comment lol, and for some reason I thought I was being clearer in my conveyal of that than I may have actually been (ig I thought my language pointed to that/left room to insinuate that within the broader statements I made, but maybe my heavily associative-thinking brain overestimated the room it left for those ideas to be visible in my comment). I suspect the room I left with my scalpel terminology likely inadvertently obscured my implicit inclusion of that nuance - SIDE NOTE, isn't it IRONIC I'm doing that very thing again in this comment?! Anyway lol, the intentful ignorance I mentioned is foreboding /because/ of the known presence of what is being avoided and its imminent inevitable arrival. The concern I touched on - on the speaker's behalf - also includes the concern they have for their own behavior of avoidance even while they shut out the truth of the triggering fact to try to preserve themself from the overwhelm of how it can't be stopped. I even had a moment during which I thought about how the high contrast and harsh brightness parallels discomforting truths and overwhelm :'D Every time someone extracts something from my words, it's on one hand awesome imo to see what they take of it, but simultaneously a bit gnawing in its reminding of the bottlenecks between what I think and what I write and what is extracted by others, lol xD like I have SOOOOO much I'd want to say, but I can't say all of it efficientlyyy lol (not that I have to, but wouldn't that be interesting?!). linguistic bottlenecks yaaaaayyyyy! also I have sooo much more to say on this poem lmao and ur linguistic choices - I could literally write an essay (not gonna do that here tho lol *cough- any more than I already have, anyhow* for the sake of this comment section, hehe). um. can you tell I love dissecting literature? /silly
to-do list

- fanart of Carnivore !
- Map part !!!
- dmc entry !
- dta entry !
- art of @雹然蓮 's OC !!!
- art of @liko !! (CONTEST!! )) 's OC !!
- comic for mira. (either 1 to 4 pages depending on my motivation). !!
- make another bio update !
Here’s my entry for @◒ Crow ◓ 's contest!! Huge congrats on 50+ followers!
I actually listened to the songs to get his vibe down, especially the Prometheus/sun deity concepts and the heavy crow wings motif from the Pigpen lyrics lol x)
For the design, I added an earthy, warm green like you mentioned. I gave him a cozy journalist/adventurer outfit, plus a travel cloak option. I also sketched two extra hairstyles to the right ^^
Honestly I just love his lore and design so much, he was incredibly fun to draw!!
W ART HOLY
Aw! I love the little nose!! so good
Finally finished!! This took me around 4 hours, which is the longest I've spent on a piece in a while, but I'm so happy with how it turned out. ^^'
challenge hosted by @kaitoes / diligent students artspace
@nixystar3-0_0 omg ;w; <33 we're both just learning lol so your already like me :3

AAA TYSM THIS IS SO CUTE X3
Me after swimming the 200 Free, the 500 Free, and being lead-off on the 400 Free relay in one swim meet.....
just thought this was funny lmao. i'm working and made loads o' progress on the comic panel lmao but alas i must sleep, my body demands it-
I used to do competitive swim lol
Lol realll
Had so much fun drawing this with @Boo ! I did the character on the left and the background. I was using this to practice rendering and I'm really happy with how it turned out! ^^
Had fun drawing with you too :]
Finished this a while ago but totally forgot to post it. I drew my friend for her birthday (and actually showed it to her on time :00)!
hehehe i know she'll never see this post but she's awesome and knows it xD
I went for a comic book / pop art inspired vibe for this one. Lowkey really amazed by how the rendering turned out on it!
Your realistic portraits always makes me smile :D
@Ｐｏｌｉｚｃｈｋ ':>>> woahhh...I just abuse the soft brush x3
Expanded Mira's wardrobe bc i finally realized normal ppl don't wear the exact same outfit every single day of their lives lol..
Swapped her og frog hoodie for some cottagecore/practical gear for navigating the valley. (Also yes the 5 pages of google docs world-building lore was absolutely mandatory for this).
honestly i just love nerding out and dropping random bits of lore about how this whole world structure work so feel free to ask questions xD
Testing out a new artist signature/mark too so my friends will finally stop teasing me that my art is gonna get stolen smh.
which outfit/hair is your favorite :3 ?
@Ｐｏｌｉｚｃｈｋ yay. and omg :0 that hair was so hard to draw :'D
I love this! All the outfits fit her well too, but I especially like the one all the way to the right. And the hair on the bottom left is my fav c:
Finally finished this lil tree sketch!
I found a really cool poem called Juniper Wisdom and immediately went on Pinterest to look up references for some quick tree practice.
Lil shout-out to @Ｐｏｌｉｚｃｈｋ for the inspiration! Their recent tree art made me want to sit down and actually try drawing one myself lol. ( go check em' out their art is amazing!)

just something personal i wanted to put into words + image. i suppose one could call it a quiet study of feeling distant from yourself.

From sheets and heavy double
underneath the skin hardening
I couldn’t decipher the face
or the mattress which my shadow
would leave me through, in. I,
missing the morning, had to turn,
believe in bone. Because yesterday
decided to grow cartilage
inside my mouth I abandoned names
I left mirrors. Window that could
never be looked through and hollow
sound. I’ve forgiven the body
in my bed just to sleep with no echo
of who I used to be. I kept thinking
of the glass when the room went blank.
When the unobserved view made
someone else. So I could tear,
beyond imagining what within
would wake.

kjhedfchu i love this smm
Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna) is one of my favorite little birds to spot around here. They're surprisingly common where I live, and it's incredibly mesmerizing when their feathers catch the sun.
I actually saw an immature male the other day, which was really cool! He had little patches of iridescence peeking through among the green.
This bird was such a fun one to work on! :33 I used a reference and definitely spent longer than I planned tweaking little details (and procrastinating lol), but I'm really happy with how the colors and feathers turned out in the end.
I love the Anna's hummingbird! Both of my grandparents have an innumerable amount of bird feeders for these guys, so their presence certainly isn't scarce in my life XD
Also: I love your texturing! I feel like you nailed the petite feathering of tiny birds so well :)
Omg that’s so good
Happy Birthday to me!!
:3
Made a little wish this year... ✂️
Maybe birthday candles really do have a little bit of magic in them hehe...
That's so funny; I tried figuring it out when I was 13 and haven't check the accuracy since, so I'm surprised it still holds up XD
@V*RST*MM*N OMG xDD I can hear the music in my mind perfectly reading this? xDD You actually nailed like 99% of it lmaoo xDD <33 tho depending on the version 100% xD ty lmao
My first artfight attack! This is the lovely Emma Geeves belonging to @Pear Bear in a Chair or https://artfight.net/~pearbear_in_a_chair
This one took me a bit of time to wrap up! I went back and forth for ages trying to figure out the exact color of her dress (still not entirely sure if it's green, grey, white, or what haha on the ref). I also used this piece to challenge myself and learn how to paint sun-dappled leaf lighting and shadows.
@Catwicky idekkk tbh TvT
@Nix ୭⋆｡˚ (semi-hiatus) idk even know how u did a whole scene omg!
Meet my OC Mira! I've been working on her ref for artfight cough https://artfight.net/~Q1nix cough
Her personality is basically thoughtful, quiet, observant, deeply loyal, and a wry sense of humor. She has an older brother named Casmir who dreams of becoming a pilot. Mira of course is happy to keep her boots on the ground.
She spends her time hiking the valley they live in and exploring different caves for unique plants and fungi. She also enjoys birdwatching. Her frog companion, Tad, always accompanies her. Her satchel is mostly full of field guides, specimen jars, and whatever cool little treasures she manages to find.
@Potic-☀️ woahhh :00 pls post itt when/if you finish i'd love to see :00 and ty ^^ <33
Ahhhhhhhn omgg frog?? wow I have an Oc that in theory has a frog design heh heh. I love your OC!!! is just soo lovely!!<3
The Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) lives high up in the misty mountain canopies of Mesoamerica and survives almost entirely on wild, miniature avocados!! They swallow the fruits whole, digest the flesh, and then spit the massive seeds back out completely clean, which helps plant entirely new forests!
This was such a blast to draw! :33 I used a ref and spent wayyyy too much time messing around with texture, and ended up creating a custom feather brush lol.
Massive thank you to @uriellllll for the drawing suggestion!
@Nawy10 yeah =w= i'mstill in shock lmao. also overwhelm from the amoiunt of notifs i've had :'DD help-
Ooh cool
I can't remember the last time I've spent this long on a drawing :0
I saw these amazing gorgeous borb photos (courtesy of @Shroomy✮ ｡𖦹 ⋆𓍊𓋼𓍊㋡) and knew I had to try and draw em'
It was really fun experimenting with different brushes and I think I've learned a lot from this experience :)
WAIT HOLY PEAK TEACH ME UR WAYS! Im showing your channel or whatever its called to my bird loving friend
excuse me sir wheres the printer this is SO GOOD
elite
Oohhh u did so well these are so good!! tysm for using my references:D
@peculiar-exister desaturated colorsss <3333 =w= hehe good observations tho :3 and ty!
woawoaoowoaaoaoaa LOVELY study!!!
yess I love the rendering on these birbs! It's like each one is a low-contrast version of high-contrast photos (ik you love to desaturate lol) :> Although now I realize the saturation is actually pretty close in your pigeon drawing to the original lol (apart from the birb being slightly darker in the photo, but you can pay no mind to that nitpicky noticing on my behalf. I'm just saying my observations as they occur to me. It looks great either way. xD). Anyway these are soooo good! :D I rly love the rendering and lighting on the gull especially!
So good Nix!!!
tyyyyyy Prim <3
