The BMW 2500 is a classic luxury sedan, part of the "New Six" series (E3 chassis), produced from 1968 to 1977. It marked BMW's return to the luxury segment with a new six-cylinder engine and served as a template for modern BMW sedans. Praised for its combination of sportiness and elegance, it helped re-establish BMW as a luxury competitor to Mercedes-Benz. Key features Engine and performance: The BMW 2500 was powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six engine that produced 148 horsepower. While this output was considered "under-powered" compared to later versions, it was praised for its smooth, refined operation and contributed to the car's balanced driving dynamics. In road tests, the engine delivered "the performance of a full-blooded sports car" for its time. Design: The 2500 was an elegant and timeless sedan that looked like a larger, more refined version of the popular BMW 2002. Its design featured a relatively short front, a slim and elegant rear, and a four-headlight setup that became a trademark for many future BMWs. Interior: The cabin combined luxury and sportiness with a simple, functional, and intuitive dashboard layout. It featured large, analog instrument dials and, depending on the trim, wood veneers and leather upholstery. While it was the base model in the "New Six" lineup, it helped set new standards for upper-class interiors. Chassis and handling: The 2500 was built to be a sporty and comfortable sedan, striking a balance that avoided the overly soft ride of some luxury competitors. It came equipped with MacPherson struts in the front and independent trailing-arm suspension in the rear. Historical significance: The BMW 2500 was a pivotal car in BMW's history. After avoiding bankruptcy with its "Neue Klasse" range and 02-series cars, BMW leveraged the 2500 to move back into the luxury market. The model began BMW's legacy of "silky smooth" six-cylinder engines that would come to define the brand
