In my lore, John was taken by the company he worked for, and he was experimented on for his intelligence. The company wanted to make him a strong, capable, super-genius coder. It backfired heavily, scared, confused, and angry, John attacked and killed everyone who worked there. His code corrupted and shifted, John could still control code, and he used his gift to make himself stronger. Eventually The Spectre found him, convinced him that the survivors he is killing was apart of said experimentation. Now he kills them mindlessly, believing they are the reason he can't think, can't remember, can't go back to the one he loved the most, the shadow in his mind, a vague image of purpleish-pink hair.
