“I’m like the man who when he found his pearl, he gave up everything he owned.” It was this lyric from the song “I Am” by The City Harmonic that rang in my head. I knew it was a reference to something, and I wondered what. Later on I read the story in Matthew. I’ve read it several times, always glossing over it and completely forgetting it, but now it stuck like glue. Recently I was at a writer’s group, and felt prompted to write a story highlighting what it would be like to live amongst a man who gave up everything for a pearl. I shared what I wrote with the group, and a man there who had arrived for the first time said “I needed to hear this story today. My wife and I lost our pet cat over a week ago, and her name was ‘Pearl’. It feels like this story was written just for me.” He asked for a copy of it to share with his wife. I share this because oftentimes it’s easy to overlook the ripple effect things have in life. Who could plan that briefly referencing a scripture just one time in a song would cause it to stick with someone, then prompt a story that could bring comfort to someone else in their loss? Jesus can. It was His story. Your art, your work, your story matters. You may not always see the impact you have on people, but I can tell you that we all have stories to share that do in fact matter. You have a story, and someone needs to hear it. Have you found your pearl, and are you willing to give up everything to cherish it?
GOSH DANG THIS IS SICK. I love it
