idk what I'm doing-
I got too many tasks huuu (resisting the temptation to go back to base jams cause I know I'll get trapped there) I'll mainly be posting studies from the dilligent students artspace ദ്ദി˙∇˙)
They/Them
General rules:
- Do not claim/resell/modify/use my art or characters
- Do not post my art/characters on other platforms
- Do not use my art/characters in datasets for, in the development of, or as inputs to generative AI programs.
---------------------------
I've been encouraged to post here so I may or may not dump my crusty compressed images of previous jams
I have goldfish memory and won't remember your username, if you spot your work and want to be credited, comment and I'll edit your name in (ᵕ • ᴗ •) If you'd prefer I take it down, I can do that too ^^

This was outside of my usual time zone but it was fun >:D

notes:
- find points of tension that the fabric rests on (e.g. shoulders) and areas where there's slack (e.g. bends/creases). I tend to start from those points and draw lines outwards (idk)
- for shadows, you can paint the side of a fold, then use the paint & blend brush to blend from the peak of the fold outwards, so the edge should stay sharp, then soften as it flattens/rounds
- I did all the base shadows in one colour, then lightly erased using the round opacity brush to create areas that have less shadow(you can have greyscale turned on(Q) if you want). You can then alpha lock the shading layer and add whatever hues you want ^^

The given description: "A towering humanoid formed from twisted, ancient wood, with bark-covered branches and root-like feet. Its body resembles a living tree with jagged wooden textures and deep cracks accross its surface. Hollow shaded eyes peer from its rough wooden face, giving it an eerie, unnatural presence."

finally got to a study when it started HAHAHA
it was so cool seeing all of you draw! :D

notes:
- try breaking the wings down into feather groups, idk what they're called but you can kinda see where the feather type or size changes. I usually made a sketch of those group areas, then drew the feathers on a different layer, going from the bottom layer, up
- you can use the lasso tool with lowered opacity to get translucent flight feathers, it can also help if you have trouble creating the feather shapes(I usually make a quick straight line, then a slight curve with my wrist to create the knife shape)
- squint. as with all shading, finding the main shapes of the form and its shadows can help identify where shading is most important to block out first. you can add details after :>
- if you're painting, you can try using a semi-transparent brush like round opacity, if you want to add some colour, layering over time, instead of committing to overriding all the work you've done under it- especially good for shading or making rough transitions between colours

Wordle challenge :D
you do the Wordle of the day, then use your guesses as your composition... I probably added more yellow than my Wordle had, but close enough 🧍
(I forgot to give them pale bellies a-)
Edit: I noticed some people wondering what the animals are. They're based on the Osaki, a yokai in japanese folklore ^^ https://yokai.com/osaki/

first stime (successfuly) using greyscale to colour... idk how y'all can paint withut sketching first :'D

Notes:
- look for the 'base shapes' that the lighting and forms create, then move to smaller shapes. you can use the lasso fill tool to speed things up
- if you have a refelctive surface in a dark space, like the image on the right, you can colourpick the colour that needs to be reflected(the lightfrom outside, the dshadows cast), and paint them on using a lower opacity brush, blending if needed
^you can split your objects up and alpha lock them for easier editing of background, middle ground and foreground

The thing where you make it greyscale and pick your colours blindly... Turned out surprisingly ok??
(didn't know what to do so I drew this bird someone made: https://andrewley.artstation.com/projects/ybVKBJ )

Someone asked me how I did my trees last time so I'll put a description here :D
- I usually start by drawing the base foliage first but you can start with the trunk if you wish
- Starting from back to front (usually the most 'shadowed' colour but depends on the lighting/angle), I used the chalky brush and dabbed a general shape of the leaves, then repeated with a mid-tone and highlight where the light hits- large blobs first, then shrank the brush for finer leaves
- you can use the brush tool for sharper contrast, or set your blending tool to chalky brush and increase the 'paint' setting a bit for a softer, more blended look- like the trees here
- After drawing the trunks, I paint a few leaves on top. I also use the chalky brush on erase to remove parts of leaves (to shape the foliage a bit) and branches(to give the illusion of leaves in front)

Notes:
- Filled with ambient colour to get a feel for the 'atmosphere'
- Moved in passes using a normal hard brush; rough blocking out, then slowly moved to smaller and smaller details
- I generally moved from background to foreground

Tips:
- Squint at your reference to blur it; it will also help with picking key shapes and colours
- You can focus your detail to focal points; these are usually in the key areas of the composition, or places in the light(especially when there's a harsh cut between light and shadow)
- Reflected windows can be a huge panel with the sky on it; you can then erase where beams are/draw the smaller frames on top.
- I used overlay to airbrush colour correction, such as for places I wanted darker or places that 'glow' a bit from the sunlight
- I forgot to draw the orange graffiti in image 1, so I drew it as a slightly brighter version on a multiply layer, so it inherited the shadows below
