wings study

finally got to a study when it started HAHAHA
it was so cool seeing all of you draw! :D

notes:
- try breaking the wings down into feather groups, idk what they're called but you can kinda see where the feather type or size changes. I usually made a sketch of those group areas, then drew the feathers on a different layer, going from the bottom layer, up
- you can use the lasso tool with lowered opacity to get translucent flight feathers, it can also help if you have trouble creating the feather shapes(I usually make a quick straight line, then a slight curve with my wrist to create the knife shape)
- squint. as with all shading, finding the main shapes of the form and its shadows can help identify where shading is most important to block out first. you can add details after :>
- if you're painting, you can try using a semi-transparent brush like round opacity, if you want to add some colour, layering over time, instead of committing to overriding all the work you've done under it- especially good for shading or making rough transitions between colours
