How I animate tails (animated GIF ex in bio!)

I strongly recommend viewing the canvas for a closer look!

Ok this is probably the most random thing Ive posted on here BUT ah what the heck, this is the 80 followers, “100 posts”, (almost) 1k likes, late ToonSquid anniversary special lol

(im just kidding, but we’re close!)

I wouldn’t call this a tutorial (since I SUCK at explaining things) but Heyy since I animate tails a lot (it’s cause of Alex), i thought maybe this could help someone or act as a guide for myself :) ….or just be something that people look at lol

Is that N from Murder Drones

(Edit) I’m gonna add some tips hehe

(Keeping in mind that animation is really just free will….WITH GUIDELINES so anything different that you may have can simply apply the same guidelines but act differently)

-The longer (or less stiff) the tail, the more the s-curve is evident the more the “s” curve is evident

-think of the tail or curve as like a string, when you pull it down the tip will move with it

- “n’s tail is a little floppy (cause of the weight of the nanite acid) so there would probably be more follow through

- this wave is used on hair strands (just a bit differently) with a bit of an uneven curve (more flowy or unpredictable because it’s lighter!) fur and other hair is usually a different thing

- I recommend making the swing a bit uneven to give it a natural look (imo) though it’s entirely up to you ;)

-the base (of the s curve) will move first, and the tip with move with it but delayed

- (unimportant…..probably confusing) I did this with 12 frames (which is good BUT) I use 24 frames, which give me a certain advantage BECAUSE I can have most frames in 2s (meaning they take up two frames) WHICH is basically just 12 fps in 24 fps (do the math) BUT I can make frames 4-6 one frame each which gives it a faster motion on default (I like to think of it like frames….INSIDE FRAMES whoaaaa….im going insane)
