Best for drawing on your own

Open a tab and start painting. Nothing to install, and for most of these, nothing to sign up for.

Kleki

Best for: Quick solo painting with no sign-up and no ads

A free, open-source painting app that opens straight onto a blank canvas. It has natural brushes, layers, a stabilizer, fill, gradients, text and shapes, and it saves PSD files.

  • No account, no ads, nothing to install
  • Pressure for size and opacity when your browser supports it, and it works with Apple Pencil
  • Saves layered PSD files, so you can carry on in another app

Skip it if You want to draw with someone else (it's single-player), or you need a reliable auto-save: your work lives in the browser's storage until you save a file.

KRESKA.art

Best for: Painting from a reference photo with natural-media brushes

A free browser painting app with 180+ handmade brushes in 12 categories, liquify, symmetry and perspective guides. Its reference tools let you peek at a photo and pick its colors while you paint.

  • 180+ brushes, each with 50+ settings
  • Pressure and tilt, plus pressure emulation for a finger or mouse
  • No ads, no AI, and it saves PSD files

Skip it if You want several paintings on the go (it keeps one painting per browser), advanced layer features, or drawing with others.

Photopea

Best for: Editing PSDs and photos, Photoshop-style

A free image editor that opens PSD files with their layers, masks, layer styles, smart objects and adjustment layers. It runs locally, so your files don't leave your device.

  • Opens and saves real PSD files
  • Photoshop-style layers, masks and adjustments
  • Pressure for size or opacity on devices that support it

Skip it if You mainly want to paint (it's an editor first), you don't want ads (the free version shows them; Premium removes them), or you'd rather avoid AI tools (it includes some, such as background removal).

Sketchpad

Best for: Kids, classrooms, and drawing mixed with design

A colorful drawing and design tool from Sketch.io with 18 brushes (crayon, calligraphy, fur, spirograph and more), 14 shapes, 800+ fonts and 5,000+ clipart, plus SVG and PDF export. It's widely used in schools.

  • Ad-free
  • Clipart, fonts and shapes make posters and cards easy
  • A desktop app for Mac and Windows costs about $5, once

Skip it if You draw with a pen tablet (there's no pressure support), you want to draw live with others (its collaboration means sharing versions by link), or you want an actively updated app (its last public release note is from February 2022).

Pixilart

Best for: Pixel art, sprites and short GIF animations

A pixel-art editor and community with layers that persist across frames, unlimited frames and GIF and MP4 export, plus a big gallery to share your work in.

  • Unlimited frames, with GIF and MP4 export
  • Shared rooms for drawing pixel art together (sign in to create one)
  • A large community gallery

Skip it if You want painterly brushes (it's pixel-first) or no ads (the free version shows them; PRO is $4.99 a month). Shared rooms max out at 1024×1024 and expire after 6 hours without activity.

Live on Magma

Draw with others right now

These Art Jams are open on Magma right now. Pick one and you're on the canvas with everyone else, in your browser.

Best for drawing together

Share a link and draw on the same canvas. The big differences: voice chat, how many people fit, and how real the painting tools are.

Magma Our product

Best for: Painting with friends on one canvas while you talk

A multiplayer painting app in the browser, formerly Aggie.io. Share a link and everyone paints on the same canvas, with voice and text chat built in. It has pressure and tilt brushes, layers with 16 blend modes and layered PSD export, plus public Art Jams anyone can join. 5M+ artists have signed up.

  • Voice and text chat built into the canvas, and strokes appear for everyone as they're drawn
  • Up to 30 artists per canvas (hundreds on a board) and 60 layers on the free plan
  • Photoshop-style shortcuts (B brush, E eraser, Ctrl+Z, Shift+N new layer), a brush editor and PSD export

Skip it if You never want to sign up (guests can start drawing, but you'll need a free account to keep going), you mind ads (the free plan shows them; Blaze, at $9.99 a month, removes them), or you need layer masks, layer groups or animation (not there yet).

Flockmod

Best for: Jumping into a drawing room instantly, with no account

Free drawing rooms in the browser or a Windows app, with text chat, a public gallery and an animation mode.

  • No account needed
  • Room owners set the capacity and moderate their rooms
  • An animation mode and a public gallery

Skip it if You want more than 5 layers per room, voice chat (it isn't listed), or reliable pressure outside Chrome (Flockmod says pressure works well only in Chrome or its desktop app).

Drawpile

Best for: Serious group painting and animation, free and open source

An open-source drawing program with a multiplayer mode: layers and layer groups, masks, clipping, 200+ brushes and an animation timeline with onion skins. It's mainly a desktop app, for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android.

  • A deep toolset: layer groups, masks and animation
  • No ads, and no account needed for most things on the public server
  • Pressure support on all platforms

Skip it if You want to stay in the browser. The web version needs a server that allows it, and on the public server it only works for password-protected sessions. Public sessions also end after an hour without activity.

Magical Draw

Best for: Big, anonymous drawing-chat rooms (popular in Japan)

Japan's best-known oekaki chat (drawing chat) site. You make a room in a second, with no sign-up and no set limit on people, and draw together with text chat. There are iOS and Android apps too.

  • No account, and a room in one click
  • No set limit on people per room
  • Strong tools for room owners: passwords, bans, sub-owners and rollback

Skip it if You want voice chat (its FAQ points to a separate service), more than 2 layers, or a full undo history (it undoes a stroke only within 5 seconds). In our test, other painters saw each stroke only once it was finished, not while it was drawn.

Draw.Chat

Best for: Tutoring and drawing over PDFs or photos together

A free online whiteboard: share a link and draw together on a blank board, an image, a PDF or a map, with built-in voice and video.

  • Voice and video built in
  • Draw over PDFs, photos and maps
  • Pressure and tilt on selected tools

Skip it if You want to paint (it's a whiteboard with a handful of pens), or keep boards for good (unused boards are deleted after 31+ days). It also has an AI assistant in its chat.

How we picked and checked

We started from what people search for and what other roundups list, then dropped tools that are design apps or games first, and sites that point you to a phone app instead of the web.

For each site we read its own pages on September 30, 2026: home page, pricing, help, FAQ and release notes. Each card links to the pages we used. Where a site doesn't say something, we write "not stated" rather than guess.

Magma is our product, and we hold it to the same standard: its card lists the account, the ads and the missing features too. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

Questions

What is the best free drawing website?

It depends on what you want to do. For quick painting on your own, Kleki needs no sign-up and shows no ads. To paint from a reference photo, try KRESKA.art, and to edit PSD files, Photopea. To draw with friends while you talk, Magma puts painting tools and voice chat on one canvas.

Which drawing websites let you draw with friends?

Magma, Flockmod, Drawpile, Magical Draw and Draw.Chat, plus Pixilart's shared pixel-art rooms. Of those, Magma and Draw.Chat have voice chat built in; Magical Draw's FAQ says it has none.

Can I draw online without making an account?

Yes. Kleki, KRESKA.art, Photopea, Flockmod, Magical Draw and Draw.Chat need no account. Pixilart lets you draw without one but needs it for online saving and rooms. Magma lets guests start drawing, then asks for a free account.

Which drawing websites support pen pressure?

Most of them: Kleki, KRESKA.art (with tilt), Photopea, Pixilart, Magma (with tilt), Drawpile and Magical Draw, plus some of Draw.Chat's tools. Flockmod says its pressure works well only in Chrome or its desktop app, and Sketchpad has no pressure support.

Are there drawing websites without ads?

Kleki, KRESKA.art, Sketchpad and Drawpile show no ads. Photopea, Pixilart, Magma, Magical Draw and Draw.Chat show ads on their free versions; Photopea, Pixilart and Magma sell plans that remove them.

Which drawing websites are good for kids and schools?

Sketchpad is ad-free and widely used in classrooms, and Kleki is simple and ad-free too. Magma accounts are for ages 13 and up, and it has an education plan for schools. Public drawing-chat rooms are open to anyone, and Magical Draw's FAQ allows adult content in private rooms, so supervise younger kids.

Do these drawing websites use AI?

A few do. Photopea includes AI tools such as background removal, and Draw.Chat has an AI assistant in its chat. KRESKA.art says it uses no AI, and Magma has no AI image-generation tools (see our AI Art Manifesto).

Where can I share my art online?

Most of these sites are for making art. Magma and Pixilart also have community galleries where you can post it, and Magma's Art Jams let you make it with other artists live.
