You’ll soon be able to register and license your art directly in Magma, allowing you to track and control how it is used anywhere on the Internet.

How does Programmable IP work?

According to Story Protocol, “Programmability means giving creative assets built-in rights for enforcement, remixing, and monetization.” Story Protocol allows creators to attach legally binding and automatically enforced rights onto their work through the blockchain. Creators seamlessly set the pricing and permission terms for how their work can be used. Anyone interested in using that work can then accept the terms and license it in a single click.

How does this partnership benefit artists?

1. Creators will be able to monetize work they make on Magma without having to go through an intermediary. This gives more power to artists while letting them monetize their art in less time and with less friction.

2. Registering artwork allows artists to prevent their work from being used without their consent. Story Protocol’s backend infrastructure will ensure that artists are automatically credited and compensated every time someone uses their art.

3. This partnership allows artists to interact with and add to work that inspires them without worrying about infringing on copyrights (For example, creating fan art of a character or scene in a video game and monetizing that work.) They can easily put their own spin on work from their favorite artist or studio and publish it according to set terms – while getting credit for their unique contribution.

What happens when I register artwork in Magma?

Soon, you’ll be able to register any assets you make in Magma and easily set usage and attribution terms for your creations. You’ll give your artwork a name, choose whether or not your artwork can be used commercially, and add an optional description. One simple click from within the Magma platform and you’re all set!

After registering artwork, you’ll be able to track and control how your work is used across mediums and platforms – that ranges from social media right to any other website on the Internet. Others can then add their own spin to your artwork depending on the terms you’ve set. This allows you to effortlessly grow your art (your IP) at the speed and scale of the Internet, in accordance with the pricing and permissions you’ve specified.

What if I’ve created artwork with other people?

When registering a collaborative artwork in Magma, you can divide the IP ownership proportionately. You can choose how many IP shares each person who contributed to the drawing will get, then send each collaborator a request to approve the registration. Each artist will have to approve the amount of shares they’ve been assigned before the artwork can be registered. This makes attribution easy and fair for art that multiple people worked on.

What if AI has been used in the creation process?

We believe transparency is key when it comes to AI use in art. Magma’s metadata will allow artists and studios to easily verify when their work is entirely human-made. Meanwhile, those who use AI in their creative process could clearly distinguish between what they drew manually and AI-assisted components or layers. This reduces legal risks by allowing artists to easily prove the extent of human creativity involved in AI-assisted work.

Our partnership with Story Protocol also helps creators who are concerned about their work being used to train AI in an unauthorized manner. Registering Magma artwork can help declare the rights and authorizations for the original source material.
